If you’re getting married in Tuscany, congratulations! This Italian region was the birthplace of the Italian Renaissance and its rolling hills and historic villages are so romantic and picturesque — perfect for destination weddings! My guide to planning your Tuscany wedding will help you get started, creating an event that will be true to your love.

However, I’d encourage you to add some local elements to make your destination wedding even more luxurious and special — these six Tuscany wedding tips will help you curate a romantic celebration that you and your guests will fall in love with.

1. Wondering how to plan a unique Tuscany wedding? It’s all about the cuisine.

One of my top tips for an unforgettable Tuscany wedding is to serve local food and wine! Tuscany is one of the world’s most famous culinary destinations for a reason, so make your celebration an authentic one by offering traditional dishes, including menu items featuring panzanella, truffle oil, cured meats, and rich pasta. Tuscan cuisine is known for its cheese, dairy, meat, and sweet desserts, so it’s easy for everyone to find something they’ll love.

These are best paired with local wines, of course, including Montepulciano and Chianti. You can also include other traditional Italian spirits in your reception menu, including limoncello or locally-produced gin.

2. Incorporate traditional Italian music.

It’s not a wedding without music, so for your destination wedding in Tuscany, hire some local musicians to get everyone onto the dance floor!

Music is such a big part of Italian culture, so local performers would be a beautiful surprise for your guests! Your wedding vendor or venue is sure to have recommendations for local favorites who can offer both traditional folk and classic hits everyone will love.

Or, you could still have a DJ for the reception, but plan your walk down the aisle to be accompanied by live music.

3. Choose a venue that offers Tuscan architecture and design.

Selecting the right venue is key to planning luxury weddings in Tuscany. Seek out a venue that you truly fall in love with and where you can picture yourself, celebrating with your loved ones — but also think about your venue’s style!

A traditional Tuscan venue will make your wedding feel so much more authentic. From historic castles to locally owned restaurants and luxurious farmhouses, you have so many options! The stone, wrought iron, and wood architecture, traditional to the region, will be stunning in your wedding photography.

4. Arrange an olive oil-tasting experience.

Tuscany is famous for its olive oil which is a staple in traditional cooking — so if you’re looking for unique Tuscany wedding ideas, arrange a local tasting for your guests. For centuries, Tuscany has been known for its olive farms and famously produces some of the world’s highest-quality oils.

There are many local farms where you can arrange a private tasting, or even day tours that will visit multiple producers — or, giving your guests a bottle to take home would be so thoughtful! Each time they use it to cook, they’ll be reminded of your gorgeous wedding.

5. Include a gelato cart — your guests will love this one!

Another local delicacy that Tuscany is known for — gelato! A local gelato cart is easy to arrange for your guests to enjoy after dinner or during the cocktail reception, a fun treat on a hot summer’s day.

The flavors are seemingly endless, but a few local flavors to include are fragola, lemon, and tiramisu. Or, for couples not big on the idea of traditional wedding cake, a gelato cart could be a fun alternative.

6. Plan a welcome event for your guests to get to know one another.

If your guests are flying in from all over the world, it’s highly likely that not everyone will know one another. As a special treat to welcome everyone to Tuscany, plan an event or outing where all of your guests can mingle, connect, and share in the excitement of your upcoming wedding!

This could be anything you think would resonate with your attendees, such as an excursion to visit some of Tuscany’s wineries, a guided tour of one of the region’s historic towns or art galleries, or lunch in a private room of one of Tuscany’s best trattorias.
