Destination wedding

Marbella, the sparkling jewel of Spain’s Costa del Sol, is such a romantic choice for your destination wedding! With unbelievable beaches, delicious cuisine, and such a passionate and lively vibe, a destination wedding in Marbella is a delight for couples seeking sunshine and fun — but how do you ensure your wedding unfolds just as you’ve imagined it? If you’re curious about Marbella wedding planning, here are my top tips for organizing the most romantic destination wedding that you and your guests will adore.

I’ve also put together this ultimate guide to planning your Marbella wedding, if you’re looking for more inspiration!

1. One of my top tips for getting married in Marbella: Select your season and timings with consideration

I know you’re bubbling over with exciting Marbella wedding ideas, but one big consideration is your wedding season and time of day.

Most couples, of course, want to book their wedding in the warm summer months, ensuring they can make the most of the beaches, but please know that it can be very hot in Marbella in June, July, and August!

To manage the heat, it’s best to avoid planning your ceremony during midday, as you and your guests might be sweltering in the high temperatures. Late afternoon or early evening, around 4-5pm, it’s a much more comfortable time for an outdoor ceremony.

2. Hire a local wedding planner

If you’re starting to think about how to plan a destination wedding in Marbella, start by hiring a wedding planner.

If you live overseas, don’t speak Spanish, or just aren’t familiar with Marbella, an experienced planner will prove invaluable, as they’ll assist with venue selection, vendor recommendations, and manage all of the logistics.

A good planner is worth their weight in gold! They’ll ensure everything goes smoothly, so you can enjoy a stress-free day while celebrating with loved ones.

3. Invest in your wedding vendors

I know you have a beautiful and romantic plan for your destination wedding, but selecting the right vendors is essential to bringing your vision to life!

Not all vendors are created equal, so please don’t skimp on things like florals and catering. Your key vendors are completely worth investing in, and your local planner should be able to help with recommendations as well.

As the old saying goes, if something sounds too good to be true, it probably is!

4. Weave elements of the local culture into your celebrations

One of my top Marbella wedding tips is to consider the local culture! The history, cuisine, and traditions of this region are so beautiful, so you can add meaning to your wedding by including some of these in your celebration.

You may wish to plan a private visit to some of Marbella’s beautiful vineyards, or include local favorites like tapas or traditional seafood dishes into your wedding day, helping your guests connect with the culture.

5. Plan as far in advance as you can

With unbelievable beaches and romantic sunset views, it’s no surprise that weddings in Marbella are very popular, especially in late spring through early autumn. This means some of Marbella’s best luxury wedding venues will book up very quickly, especially on weekend dates.

As a Marbella wedding guide, try to lock in your preferred venue about a year ahead of time. However, you may be able to find venues you love in a shorter time frame, but as a general rule, it’s best to plan everything well in advance, ensuring you can get your preferred dates and timings.

6. Plan a welcome event for your guests

Your guests are sure to be so excited about visiting Marbella! After all, a fun destination wedding is a fantastic chance for a holiday!

When your guests arrive, why not thank them for coming and welcome them to Marbella by planning a special event just for them? Not only will it be a fun adventure, but it also gives guests a chance to get to know one another before the wedding.

You could charter a yacht for a sunset cruise on the water — think luxury hospitality and champagne — or book a private room in one of Marbella’s best restaurants or bars for an exclusive celebration.

Destination weddings are all about quality time with the people who matter most to you, so plan an event that you know they’ll love, whether that’s a casual winery tour or a five-star gourmet dinner.
