You’ll need your original passports, birth certificates, proof of divorce (if previously married), and a declaration of marriage form, submitted to the civil register. You’ll also need to complete some Italian paperwork, the Nulla Osta and Atto Notorio, but your wedding planner will be able to advise on this. Catholic weddings also require additional documentation from a Bishop within your home country. 

Legally, Italian weddings must be conducted by a Catholic priest or a civil government official. Two witnesses, who are over 18 and have valid identification, will also need to be present. 

Of course, if you’d rather have your legal ceremony in your home country and have your destination wedding in Tuscany be purely symbolic, that’s also a perfectly valid choice! Symbolic weddings still have deep meaning and emotion; allowing you both to say your vows in a way that feels right for you.
