Destination wedding

It’s hard to imagine anything more romantic than a destination wedding in Tuscany!  This stunning region of central Italy is famous for its rolling green hills, iconic cypress trees, and fine cuisine and wine. With elegance and luxury, getting married in Tuscany is ideal for couples seeking a timeless destination rich in history, culture, and natural beauty.

Easily accessible from Florence or Pisa airports, your guests will love the excitement of celebrating your beautiful romance in Tuscany, one of Europe’s most special places. With ancient medieval towns, renowned art and architecture, and world-class wine, it’s easy to see why Tuscany is such a desirable location for a destination wedding.

If you’re ready to say ciao to a wedding of fun, romance, and wine, here’s how to plan a destination wedding in Tuscany that will be unforgettable!

How To Get Married In Tuscany

Even if you’re not Italian, it’s still possible to get married in Italy! Legally binding weddings in Italy can be either civil or Catholic, and both parties will need to provide a few documents.

What do you need to get married in Tuscany? You’ll need your original passports, birth certificates, proof of divorce (if previously married), and a declaration of marriage form, submitted to the civil register. You’ll also need to complete some Italian paperwork, the Nulla Osta and Atto Notorio, but your wedding planner will be able to advise on this. Catholic weddings also require additional documentation from a Bishop within your home country.

Legally, Italian weddings must be conducted by a Catholic priest or a civil government official. Two witnesses, who are over 18 and have valid identification, will also need to be present.

Of course, if you’d rather have your legal ceremony in your home country and have your destination wedding in Tuscany be purely symbolic, that’s also a perfectly valid choice! Symbolic weddings still have deep meaning and emotion; allowing you both to say your vows in a way that feels right for you.

What Is The Best Time To Get Married In Tuscany?

The months of May through August are generally the most popular times for a Tuscan wedding, since the weather is warm, with low chances of rain, making it easy to dine alfresco and enjoy a beautiful outdoor ceremony. Or, the shoulder seasons of spring or autumn can still bring nice weather, so there are plenty of choices for planning your wedding.

Many Tuscany wedding venues may close for the colder months – however, some do stay open, so if you’re dreaming of a winter wedding in Tuscany, this time of year can often bring lower pricing and fewer crowds. Traditionally, November sees the most rainfall in this part of Italy.

La Dolce Vita: How To Enjoy Your Time In Tuscany

Part of the beauty of a destination wedding is that it provides you with lots of quality time to spend with loved ones, in a chosen location that has meaning to you. And Tuscany is just perfect for this!

There are so many amazing things you can do with your guests here, such as explore the charming towns of Siena, Monteriggioni, and San Gimignano, to name a few. Itʻs also a delight for lovers of the arts, with plenty of famous art galleries, museums, and historical sites to explore.

Or, you can plan a special winery tour to welcome your guests to Tuscany, sampling some of the Brunello di Montalcino or chianti that this part of Italy is so famous for. And you know youʻll eat well in Tuscany, so be sure to include some local delights in your destination wedding, such as truffles, olive oils, meats, and local cheese.

Types of Weddings In Tuscany, Italy

With so many gorgeous luxury wedding venues in Tuscany, you can plan just about any sort of wedding here! With grand, historic castles, welcoming wineries, or agriturismo farm stays, I love that Tuscany offers authentic, locally owned venues where you and your guests can eat well, relax, and enjoy the best of Tuscan hospitality.

For more intimate weddings or elopements, you can also discover lots of small wedding venues in Tuscany, such as homes or villas that can be rented out privately for exclusive use.

If you’re based overseas, working with a local wedding planner can be the easiest (and most stress-free) way to plan your event. Once they get to know your wedding vision, they can recommend venues and vendors that can bring your magical wedding plans to life!

Popular Tuscan wedding villas can be booked far in advance within the busy spring and summer months, so please lock in your preferred villa as soon as possible — I’d hate for you to miss out on your preferred choice.

Luxury Venues That You’ll Adore For A Destination Wedding In Tuscany

Searching for a venue that delivers exceptional service and comfort, and is just quintessentially Tuscan? If so, here are a few fantastic options that always go above and beyond for destination weddings.

Villa Catureglio

Positioned near the medieval walled town of Lucca, Villa Catureglio is a gorgeous Tuscan estate that dates back to the 13th century. Surrounded by olive orchards and forest, your Villa Catureglio wedding is going to be so romantic, as you can say your vows immersed in nature.

You can celebrate year-round here, with the venue able to host up to 120 guests and accommodation on-site for up to 41 people. When planning your wedding here, you can choose from multiple ceremony and reception spaces, including a beautiful barn, with rustic chic and exposed beams, or an ornamental garden, which is so vibrant in spring and early summer. Weddings are a specialty here, so the venue’s experienced team will ensure your day unfolds just as you’ve planned.

If you’re dreaming of a traditional, historic wedding with lots of natural beauty, you’ll love your wedding photography here, as we’ll have lots of opportunities to take candid shots in front of ivy-covered stone walls, soaring cypress trees, and beautiful wooded areas.

Como Castello del Nero

A Como Castello del Nero destination wedding is a delight for wine aficionados – located within the chianti wine region, you and your guests can indulge in some of Italy’s most famous wines, paired with incredible cuisine from the Michelin-starred La Torre restaurant, located on-site.

It’s a beautiful choice for a Tuscany castle wedding, with ancient stonework and even the 12th-century San Michele Chapel, where you can say your vows. For a small wedding in Tuscany, the Wine Cellar or the chapel are top options, or larger weddings are well suited to the elegant Italian Gardens or the Panoramic Terrace.

With a location atop the rolling hills of Tuscany, the views are phenomenal here, especially during the striking golden sunset, so we’ll have great lighting for capturing all of those dramatic kisses and feelings of pure happiness as you dance and celebrate into the night. There is also a white rose garden, sprawling olive groves, and lots of vineyards, perfect backdrops for your Tuscany wedding photography

Villa di Corliano

This Renaissance villa, adorned in ancient frescos and elegant decor, is easily one of the most luxurious wedding venues in Tuscany! Villa di Corliano is less than ten minutes from the city of Pisa, but feels completely secluded, like you’re stepping back in time.

Originally built as a summer home for a wealthy Pisan merchant family, this stately villa offers several indoor or outdoor spaces for your wedding, including a former olive press, formal gardens, ancient salt cellars, and the 15th-century Gentile Chapel, which can sit up to 50 guests.

A Villa di Corliano wedding is ideal for couples seeking Tuscan history, luxury, and elegance. And you’ll love the dramatic and striking wedding photos we can take here, which will feel so timeless and classical, especially with the historic painted frescoes, which are something so rare and special.

Villa Cetinale

Located near the UNESCO-listed heritage city of Siena, Villa Cetinale is a wonderful choice for a rustic Tuscan farmhouse wedding. This historic estate is famous for its elegant Italian gardens and sculptures, so a spring wedding here is so amazing — we can take images with everything in lush and in bloom. With 13 luxurious bedrooms within the villa, you can rent out the entire property for private use, complete with an inviting swimming pool, elegant lounge areas, and stunning gardens.

You can say your vows within the garden, then dine and dance outdoors at long tables, set up on the venue’s impressive lawns. Or, for smaller weddings, the venue’s 17th-century chapel can host up to 30 people.

With twinkling fairy lights, immaculate gardens and hedgerows, and marble statues and fountains, your Villa Cetinale wedding photography will have such an ethereal feel, with classical elements of Italian architecture and landscaping.
